La Fenix Mural

The mural at La Fenix was born out of the collaboration between the Twin Walls Mural Company and the local youth from Youth Art Exchange. Together, we wanted to ensure that the community could see themselves reflected in the artwork. Their work is a showcase of the resilience and unity of the people who call the Mission their home.

Project Intention

Infuse the SF Mission with art that reflects its community

Every brushstroke and every detail in the mural tells a story of people helping each other, a local farmer providing food to those in need, and a young boy riding the phoenix, symbolizing hope and a bright future. The artists instilled a sense of vibrancy, color, and positivity that the community desires for their neighborhood.

Project History

La Fenix is a development focused on affordable housing and community-serving spaces.

Additional Information

Resisting gentrification and celebrating long-time residents

It was important to the artists that this mural address the issue of gentrification. The hope is that this vibrant work serves as a powerful statement against the ongoing changes that threaten the authenticity and livelihood of the Mission.

The La Fenix mural is a testament to the power of art and its ability to convey messages, spark dialogue, and inspire change. Our hope is that more people will appreciate and enjoy the mural, recognizing the significance it holds for the neighborhood and its residents.
